Ian Richardson`s Can-Am based Chevy Corvair with massive 8.1 litre engine was the first saloon to lap the Silverstone club circiut at 100 mph when it burst onto the supersaloon scene in 1975. It was able to retain the Can-Am sports layout within the saloon car rules as the production Corvair was unusually for American saloons rear-engined.
