Motor Sport Magazine reported in March that for the Snetterton race Merfield`s Cortina wasnt ready so he continued in his Anglia. A week later at Goodwood it was noted that the Anglia had been sold to Diggins but loaned back for the race as it was support for the Lombank F1 + Sports car races ( both won by Graham Hill ) .

Merfield joined the crack John Willment team for 1964. This was the top touring car team of the day and took Jack Sears to the British Saloon car title that year in a Cortina GT , Galaxie and once it had been homologated in september the new Lotus-Cortina. Willment got one of the very first cars and Merfield was was able to race it at club level a few months before it was legal for Brit Saloons. His 2nd place on June 3rd maybe the first race by any Lotus-Cortina anywhere.

races indicated with a yellow box are when the Cortina V8 was driven by an alternative driver , usually Miss Clare Newbold and always in the Handicap race after the main saloon race.

Awaiting further results for 1966. Car 5 seconds quicker on best lap times at Goodwood and Oulton Park over 1965.
